January 31, 2021, marked the 50th anniversary of Providence St. Vincent Medical Center on SW Barnes Road. In 1971, Sr. Rita Ferschweiler championed the effort to move the hospital from NW Portland to a 40-acre property in rural Washington County. It was a bold and disruptive plan that paid off in countless ways for our growing community. Happy Anniversary Providence St. Vincent! Here's to the next 50 years.

This month, we are celebrating Dosie McLean’s 50-year anniversary with Providence. Dosie, who is a caregiver at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, started her nursing career at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California in 1973 and she has no plans to stop any time soon. This week, a new, 16-bed intensive care unit opened at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center, increasing our intensive care capacity by 30%. This project has been in the works for nearly five years, long before COVID-19.
