Our North Pacific bigeye octopus (Octopus californicus) is like most octopuses: It loves a nice hiding place, tasty shrimp snacks and kraken impersonations! Besides delivering a meal, the acrylic rod used by our Aquarists is great target practice for sucker punches and a little bit of tug o' war from the octopus. These types of enrichments are all a part of a balanced diet of mental and physical stimulation for the octopuses in our care. | Monterey Bay Aquarium

"Octopuses don’t need to eat every day! Our giant Pacific octopus eats about every other day and will eat between 2-2.5% of their body weight in food. One cool fact is that they have a parrot-like beak at the center of their arms. Once they grab their prey with their suckers, they will fold their arms to the center to bring the food to their mouth.
