Canadians hit the polls on Monday in an election overshadowed by tariffs, economic uncertainty and annexation threats from the United States. Voters will decide whether to grant interim Prime Minister Mark Carney a full four-year mandate or give the Conservative Party a turn at the wheel after more than nine years of Liberal Party government.

Canadians will vote for a candidate from one of the political parties in their federal “riding,” or district. Whichever candidate gets the most votes in a riding will become a Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons, and the party with the most MPs wins the election.

Canada will hold a general election on Monday, with polls indicating Prime Minister Mark Carney's ruling Liberals ahead of the official opposition Conservatives of Pierre Poilievre. There are 343 seats in the elected House of Commons chamber.

Canadians are heading to the polls on April 28. The two biggest parties competing are the Liberals, led by Prime Minister Mark Carney, and the Conservatives under Pierre Poilievre. Canadian voters are driven by deep worries about the economy.
