Approximately 50 to 80 structures have been lost, including the National Park Service administrative buildings and visitor facilities.

The lodge itself told a key part of history for both the Grand Canyon and the National Park Service.

"As stewards of some of our country's most beloved national treasures, we are devastated by the loss of the Grand Canyon Lodge," Aramark, the company that operated the lodge, said in a statement.
