Most teams use bat boys or bat girls. Rochester uses Bruce. Earlier in the week, the Nationals announced on social media that Bruce had been “promoted” to make his Major League debut on Saturday.

MLB rules don’t specify that a dog can’t play baseball. The Nationals won’t be testing that, even as they called up Bruce the Bat Dog on Tuesday afternoon.
