A federal judge in Louisiana has ruled that the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission cannot require employers to provide accommodations to employees who get abortions, striking down a rule adopted during the administration of Democratic former President Joe Biden.

A federal judge in Louisiana found the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission exceeded its authority by including abortion in a list of pregnancy-related conditions employers are required to accommodate under the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act.

The statute requires employers with 15 or more staff to provide reasonable accommodations for pregnancy, childbirth or related conditions.
