Authorities in Scotland have canceled trains and closed parks as a rare summer storm brings destructive winds to northern Britain.

Thousands of homes have been left without power after “significant disruption” caused by Storm Floris. The Scottish Government called an emergency meeting in response to the storm as delays on rail, roads and sea continued into Tuesday. ScotRail said suspended routes would not be reopened until around 4pm.

Storm Floris made landfall in northern parts of the UK on the morning of Monday August 4, 2025, bringing intense rainfall followed by severe winds throughout the afternoon. The Met Office issued an amber weather warning for much of Scotland and yellow alerts for parts of Northern Ireland and northern England.
