The Washington Commanders' plans for a new stadium on the old RFK Stadium site in Washington D.C. took a major step forward on Friday as the D.C. City Council voted in favor (9-3) of the $3.8 billion redevelopment.

The Washington, D.C. Council voted to approve development of the RFK Stadium site, which is the first step toward the Washington Commanders building a new stadium in the city.

A second vote will be scheduled for September and will require the green light from nine members of the council.
