Lance Cpl. Jamel Clayton, 22, of Ohio, was found guilty of attacking a woman in her 20s in a village on the main Okinawa island in May 2024.

The Naha District Court said Lance Cpl. Jamel Clayton, 22, of Ohio, was sentenced in the case on Tuesday.

The court convicted 22-year-old Lance Cpl. Jamel Clayton of "nonconsensual sexual intercourse causing injury," according to a spokesperson for the Marine Corps.

Lance Cpl. Jamel Clayton, 22, of Ohio, filed his appeal on Monday, a Naha District Court spokesman said by phone Tuesday. The case will be forwarded to the Naha branch of Fukuoka High Court.
