Temporary orders have allowed abortion care to resume in Missouri for the first time in years. But a trial will need to take place to overturn the state's ban permanently.

A Kansas City judge scheduled a trial for next year that could permanently remove Missouri’s abortion ban. The trial date comes after a Jackson County judge put a temporary hold on licensing restrictions last week,

Abortion opponents had tried to block, or severely limit, the procedure, against the will of voters who in November enshrined abortion rights in the state constitution.

Sometime after 10 a.m., Comprehensive Health of Planned Parenthood Great Plains performed the first elective abortion in the state since voters overturned the state’s ban in November. The moment also marked the first abortion at its Kansas City clinic since 2018.

As abortion services resume in Missouri, protesters plan to return to the sidewalks outside the Planned Parenthood offices in St. Louis Monday in the frigid cold.
