The Yankees, who entered Tuesday with a 57-49 record and a 5½-game deficit in the American League East, have attempted to help offset Judge's absence by acquiring two new hitters over the last few days: third baseman Ryan McMahon and utility infielder Amed Rosario.

The Yankees' rotation has been depleted by injuries this season. It started in the spring when star ace Gerrit Cole underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery, and New York has faced a few more blows throughout the year. Starter Clarke Schmidt recently underwent Tommy John surgery as well.

As the team endures a marked fall from grace after a torrid start to the year, it has placed the franchise slugger on the injured list with a strained flexor tendon. He is expected to return this season, but the fallout from that brutal injury will still be far reaching.
