With nine of its 20 teams under American ownership, Serie A hopes to be the first major European soccer league to play a game in the United States, Italian league president Ezio Simonelli said Tuesday.

Nicolò Zaniolo is expected to replace the injured Moise Kean in the Fiorentina attack against Nikola Krstovic’s Lecce this evening. It’s the opening match of Serie A Round 27 and sees Lecce visit Fiorentina at the Stadio Franchi. It kicks off at 20:45 CET (19:45 GMT).

Celtics co-owner Steve Pagliuca also is co-owner and cochairman at Atalanta, among the nine clubs in the 20-team league owned by North Americans.
