A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for much of north and central Georgia through midnight Thursday, as the region braces for damaging winds and large hail. Forecasters say wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail as large as golf balls are possible as a strong front sweeps across the state Thursday evening.

Storms will move into the metro by 8-9 p.m., and push south of the city by 10 p.m. Along the line, isolated severe storms with damaging wind and hail will be possible. A brief tornado cannot be completely ruled out with the focus of this threat north and west of Atlanta.
