The San Francisco Giants have been perennial members of the National League West since they moved to the Bay Area.

Recently, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred noted that the league could realign geographically. FOX Sports outlined a plan that would group four major teams.

Baseball insiders have whispered about the possibility of regional-based realignment for a few years. MLB commissioner Rob Mandred was asked directly about it on Sunday night during an ESPN broadcast, and didn’t shy away from his next bold rules change.

The Washington Nationals have been around since 1969 and have always been in the NL East. In a proposed new realignment, that could change.

The idea unquestionably would create one of the biggest shake-ups in baseball and likely end the long-standing format that MLB has operated under for more than 100 years.

If Major League Baseball undergoes radical realignment and puts the Yankees and Mets in the same division down the road, their fans will have to “relearn who to love and who to hate” in terms of opposing teams.
