Prominent Houston-based criminal defense attorney Dan Cogdell—who notably has defended Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in court—is calling out Gov. Greg Abbott and other state officials for racially profiling a Muslim group aiming to develop a planned community.

Attorney Dan Cogdell said in a statement Thursday that the groups are being unfairly targeted and alleges they are victims of racial profiling.

The East Plano Islamic Center has faced scrutiny and multiple investigations from state officials in recent weeks over a proposed development meant to accommodate Muslim residents.
