In the latest mock from ESPN's NFL draft guru Mel Kiper Jr., the New York Jets had a surprise as the team ends up landing a quarterback in the first round.

After a standout career at Jackson State and Colorado, Shedeur Sanders is shaping up to be one of the more intriguing prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. Where he goes off the board will be worth watching in Green Bay – and ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr.

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr., however, is no longer one of those people. In his latest mock draft that dropped on Tuesday morning, the longtime draft analyst has Sanders falling all the way to the New York Jets at No. 7. In his previous mock draft back in January, Kiper had Sanders going to the New York Giants at No. 3.

The New York Jets have a surprise waiting for them in Mel Kiper Jr.s latest mock of the 2025 NFL draft. Following the team's split with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, a large emphasis has been placed on the position this offseason. Adding to that is the Jets not holding a pick at the upcoming draft until No. 7 overall.

Even though conventional wisdom suggests the Las Vegas Raiders will draft Shedeur Sanders if the opportunity presents itself, ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. has the Colorado star ending up slightly lower in the 2025 draft.

With the NFL Combine around the corner we’re starting to see more and more mock drafts. This week Mel Kiper Jr. put out his second of the cycle, and there are some serious head scratchers in this one, at least based on the consensus around the rest of the football world.

The other stunner happened with the pick right before that one, as Kiper has Pete Carroll and the Las Vegas Raiders selecting former Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who rushed for 2,601 yards last season and finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting behind Colorado's Travis Hunter.

Unless one team makes a bold move to trade up and take Sanders. Kiper spoke with Field Yates on the "First Draft" podcast, and suggested the New York Jets could be bold enough to do it. Kiper pointed to the team's decision to depart from Aaron Rodgers as a key factor, as the team is without a quarterback, among other things.
