A suspected car thief being chased by police in Los Angeles on Monday night was killed after he jumped out of the van he was driving on the freeway and was then struck by multiple vehicles as news cameras broadcast the chase live on TV.

Federal officials said the 21-year-old truck driver accused of causing Tuesday’s fatal pileup entered the U.S. from India in 2022.

SAN JOSE — A man suspected of driving drunk hit and killed a man walking on a freeway connector near downtown San Jose on Wednesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol. The fatal collision was reported around 7:20 p.m. at the transition ramp from northbound Highway 87 to northbound Interstate 280, the CHP stated in a news release.

Authorities released the name of the 21-year-old driver who allegedly crashed his semitruck into traffic in a collision that killed three people.
