Senegal walked off in protest over a late penalty, before winning 1‑0 in extra time - as tournament organisers and FIFA condemn chaotic scenes.
Moroccan fans were left crestfallen on Sunday after their team lost the Africa Cup of Nations final 1-0 to Senegal after extra time in a tense encounter at Rabat's Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
The Senegalese players walked off after Morocco was awarded a contentious penalty, which Brahim Diaz missed, before they returned and won 1-0 in extra time.
All this indignation, according to 'L'Equipe', is due to the fact that the CAF (Confederation of African Football) had appointed Amin Mohamed Omar, an Egyptian referee, for the Morocco-Cameroon match, but later changed him to Dahane Beida, a Mauritanian referee.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations kicked off Sunday, Dec. 21 and will determine the continent's champion on Sunday, Jan. 18.
