The People's Union USA, a grassroots advocacy group, has previously called for boycotts on large corporations, including a Walmart boycott from May 20-26. Earlier this month from June 3-9, group founder John Schwarz called for consumers to "take the week to spread the word" on a "permanent boycott" of Target.

The protest over McDonald’s DEI policies and “corporate greed” is the latest boycott in a series of consumer actions from the grassroots advocacy group The People's Union USA. The group has been organizing “economic blackouts” and other targeted protests against places like Amazon and Walmart since late February to “hold corporations and corrupt systems accountable.

McDonald's has issued a response to the nationwide boycott that has been targeting its restaurants this week, fueled in part by the company's decision to roll back diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
