On Friday, a 17-year-old transgender athlete AB Hernandez secured their place in the finals of three events at a competition for California school children while campaign groups flew a banner that read "No Boys in Girls' Sports!

The high school junior shared first place with her closest competitor because of a new policy put into place earlier this week in response to her success.

AB Hernandez wins high jump, takes second in long jump and competed in triple jump in the first year where California allows an additional student to compete and medal in events that includes a trans athlete.
