SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A team from Taiwan is the world champion of Little League Baseball. But the Little League record books will show Chinese Taipei defeated Las Vegas, Nevada, 7-0. Throughout a post-game news conference, the word Taiwan could be heard in answers by the manager and players to questions relayed to the interpreter Philip Chang.

Taiwan won its first LLWS since 1996, although its 18 titles are the most of any country beside the US, including five straight from 1977 to 1981. When Chen Yi-Reng caught a fly ball in left field to end the game, Taiwan’s gloves went flying into the air as the team piled in front of the mound.
