ESPN's Tim MacMahon gave an update on the state of Durant's contract extension. According to him, while the Rockets intend to give him a new deal, he's not the top priority right now. Both sides could wait for the perfect opportunity to discuss the matter.

In a recent article, Buckley predicted that Houston’s deal for Durant will age well by this time next summer. Conceding the possibility that Durant could walk in free agency in 2026, Buckley still believes that Houston made the right call by getting the huge piece it was missing offensively and not really sacrificing its defensive identity.

The sides have until June 30 of next year to work out an extension, there is no time crunch to get the deal done.
