Authorities said one fatality has been confirmed in an explosion at the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works facility outside of Pittsburgh.

Flames and heavy smoke billow out of the plant owned by US Steel as firefighters struggle to extinguish the fire.

The explosion, followed by several smaller blasts, could be felt in the nearby community and prompted county officials to warn residents to stay away from the scene so emergency workers could respond.
