Athletic Club have confirmed they met with LaLiga to question Barcelona's ability to sign players within the league's financial fair play rules amid the Catalan side's ongoing pursuit of Nico Williams.

Barcelona could look to sell defender Ronald Araujo to generate funds to sign Nico Williams (h/t Diario AS ). Andreas Christensen looked most likely to leave Barcelona as he is not manager Hansi Flick’s first choice. The Danish defender missed nearly the entire 2024/25 season with a long-term injury. His contract expires next summer.

As long as Barcelona haven’t sealed a Nico Williams deal with Athletic Club, the door stays open for rival suitors.
