Gen. Amir Ali Hajizadeh, the head of the Revolutionary Guards’ air force unit, was among them. He was seen by Israeli officials as one of Iran’s most intelligent military commanders whose death would have been a real blow to the unit’s operations. Both were killed in the first days of the war.

At least 16 scientists and 10 senior commanders were among those mourned at the funeral, according to Iran state media.
