Local health officials in Gaza say that Israeli forces have killed at least 40 people overnight, including a well-known journalist who Israel said was a militant as well as people who witnesses say were seeking humanitarian aid.

The latest killings were targeted attacks on reporters covering the war in Gaza, according to the news network that employed them.

As a ceasefire in Gaza took hold in January, Anas Al-Sharif began removing his protective gear live on television, piece by piece, while a jubilant crowd cheered, hoping the day marked the end of the suffering of 2 million Palestinians in the enclave.
